Young African mathematician bags PhD degree at 25 years old, sets record

Meet Abdulzied Yen Anafo, a young African mathematician who established a record by earning a Ph.D. at the age of 25 from the University of Mines and Technology in Tarkwa, Ghana.

At the age of 20, he graduated from the University of Development Studies (UDS) Ghana with a bachelor’s degree in pure mathematics.

On LinkedIn, Abdulzeid posted about his success and expressed his gratitude to God Almighty and the instructors who oversaw his research during his academic career.

He obtained his Master’s degree at the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences before enrolling in his Ph.D. program at the University of Mines and Technology (AIMS).

The South African research facility AIMS is dedicated to the mathematical sciences. It has a number of connected institutes in Senegal, Cameroon, Tanzania, Ghana, and Rwanda that are a part of affiliated networks.

Abdulzeid completed his doctorate at the University of Mines and Technology after earning his master’s degree at AIMS, a feat he accomplished at the young age of 25.

“On May 4, 2022, at the age of 25, I successfully used articles to defend my PhD in mathematics with a statistics option.

I am incredibly appreciative of God and my supervisors Dr. Lewis Brew and Prof. Suleman Nasiru for their support and direction.

Another 88-year-old grandfather bags Bachelor’s Degree from US university along with his granddaughter

An 88-year-old man named Rene Neira has successfully bagged a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas-San Antonio in the United States after being out of school since the 1950s.

He graduated with a Bachelor’s of Arts (B.A) in Economics and this is a very special achievement as the granddaughter who graduated the same time has expressed.

Rene Neira’s 23-year-old granddaughter, Melanie Salazar described the achievement as a special one.

She continued by recounting how her grandfather had always wished to go to college but couldn’t till he was quite old. She claimed that he stopped attending school in the 1950s in order to devote himself to raising his family.

Together with her grandfather, Melanie enrolled at the University of Texas at San Antonio. Her grandfather earned a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Economics, while Melanie earned a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Communications.

I’m extremely proud of my grandfather for finishing his first day at PAC this semester, Melanie remarked in a tweet. 82 years old and still going strong.

During the graduation ceremony, she pushed her grandfather in a wheelchair, and she admitted that she nearly burst into tears of happiness when everyone clapped for him.
