You may remember that Wizkid and Naomi Campbell, an American model, chose to perform together over Angelique Kidjo, a Beninese singer.
The model blasted the Grammys’ overseers, the Academy Awards, for failing to recognize his record.
She offered support for Wizkid, praising his record Made In Lagos and claiming he was the true real winner
He was given the title of King among his people by Naomi, which was much more significant than any prize because he had popularized Afrobeats.
“To my brother @wizkidayo, MadeInLagos was beyond a great album!” she posted on her Instagram page. WINNER, ABSOLUTELY!!
You are the KING of the people who have made AFROBEATS popular, which is more significant than any kind of academy.
@recordingacademy You make the decision to ignore what is happening in the universe once more.
Global Change Is Not Enough…
become knowledgeable about the current state of all popular music and include Afrobeats Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, Album of the Year, and all the subcategories that this genre so richly deserves – just like any other respected and acknowledged musical genre.
MadeInLagos Album and song Essence, was clearly in the wrong category, how can you ignore the song Essence
The song by Wizkid, and Tems that was covered and remixed by Justin Bieber, you seem to isolate under global, when it should have been in song of the year category.
This is a mis representation and a neglectful categorization of Music ONCE AGAIN. Give Afrobeats the representation it deserves.
You’re disregarding 1.3 billion people, and that will only help us rise! Our hearts throb to afrobeats Africa is a global beat
