David Adeleke, also known as Davido, a popular Nigerian entertainer, has stated that the upcoming Osun State governorship election will not be like Ekiti State.
The Ekiti election took place over the weekend, amid allegations of vote-buying in the state.
Some parties, including the Social Democratic Party’s (SDP) governorship candidate, Segun Oni, claimed that some residents in Ado-Ekiti, Oye, were being paid to vote for certain political parties.
Kemi Elebute-Halle, the Action Democratic Party (ADP) candidate, also claimed that other political parties are bribing voters with money.
On Tuesday, Davido warned on Twitter that residents of Osun State will legally resist any attempt to rob them of their votes.
“Osun is not Ekiti as our people will lawfully resist all attempts to rob them as was done in 2018. We will celebrate on July 16th! See you all soon, but for now, back to tour.”
On March 22, 2018, the Independent Electoral Commission, INEC, declared Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress, APC, the winner of the Osun election. Ademola Adeleke, Davido’s uncle, contested the declaration, claiming he was robbed of his mandate.
