Man United and Ajax are close to reaching an agreement on £85m fee for Antony

The agreement between Manchester United and Ajax for forward Antony is about to be finalized.

The most recent bid from United is reportedly close to the €100 million (£85 million) asking price that Ajax is seeking, including add-ons.

In light of the ongoing negotiations between the two clubs, Antony was once again omitted from the Ajax roster for Sunday’s game versus Utrecht.

This agreement, which is anticipated to close in the next 24 to 48 hours, is not regarded to have any issues with personal terms.

The 22-year-old has been sought after by United for some weeks, and last week, the club rejected a £67.9 million (€80 million) approach from United.

United has also considered other possibilities. They are still monitoring the status of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, a striker for Barcelona. Aubameyang and Chelsea have been in negotiations.

Cody Gakpo of PSV Eindhoven continues to pique United’s interest. It has been said that signing Antony and Gakpo together is “unlikely but not impossible.”

In a video interview posted on YouTube on Friday, Antony stated: “

Since February of this year, my agents came to Amsterdam to advise Ajax of my wish to leave the club in order to take on a new challenge and that some interested clubs would arrive and, with them, undoubtedly a wonderful offer.

“Meetings finished throughout the window months, and Ajax made a suggestion for a contract extension. I again stated my desire to leave the club.

“I expressed my interest in leaving the club today in a meeting with the board, this time with a sizable offer on the table. Others have already come, but Ajax consistently objects, claiming it only has five days to find a replacement (me).

“I’m asking Ajax to sell me as the biggest bid received by a player who plays in the Eredivisie, not (for Ajax to release me)”

If Antony joined United, he would be reunited with former Ajax manager Erik ten Hag, who has already signed defender Lisandro Martinez from his old team.

I was very content in Amsterdam, where I played for Ajax and won championships, made friends, and started some of my career. But now, Antony reaffirms, “I am ready and full of motivation to follow my story and my dreams.”

“People need to pay attention to me and comprehend how my motivation leads to happiness. To keep putting forth my best effort, I require this. My heart will always belong to Ajax.”

United has four days starting on Sunday to complete any remaining transactions because the transfer window closes at 11 p.m. on Thursday.
