It is impossible to imagine a better way for Robert Lewandowski to mark his 34th birthday than by scoring the opening goal for Barcelona against Real Sociedad.
Barcelona defeated Real Sociedad, who played admirably for the majority of the game, 4-1 thanks to Robert Lewandowski’s first two goals for the team.
The youthful left back made a strong run, and the Polish striker capitalized by heading home Alejandro Balde’s low cross inside the opening minute to make the most of his birthday.
Just a few minutes later, however, Swedish striker Aleksandr Isak equalized the score with a dink over Marc-Andre Ter Stegen. At the end of an even half, the score was 1-1.
Barcelona performed admirably in the second period, seizing their opportunities and finishing with a spring in their step despite the disappointing final score.
In the 53rd minute, La Real had the ball in the net, but it was properly disallowed for offside.
This time, Lewandowski took the role of the provider by backheeling the ball to Ansu Fati in the back, who calmly finished from close range.
The game in Donostia concluded 4-1, and the hosts were disappointed by the outcome since they believed it didn’t really reflect how evenly matched the teams were.
In contrast, Barcelona will view this victory as a message and a much-needed confidence booster following the opening-day draw at Camp Nou against Rayo Vallecano.
Although there may yet be room for improvement in the performance, the four goals will help allay concerns.
