The Nigeria vice President, Yemi Osinbajo on Saturday said that the Muhammadu Buhari- led government has made progress in its democratic trip.
Professor Osinbajo stated this at the interdenominational church service marking the 2022 Democracy Day festivity, held at the National Christian Centre, Abuja.
The Vice President, who was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF,Mr. Boss Mustapha, cited colorful indicators that proven that Nigeria has made progress in its popular trip
Pointing out that the successes and progress so far made had been a common public trouble, contributed by Nigerians of all persuasions and backgrounds.
According to him, the pointers have shown that the country has departed from used to be a divisive, awkward processes over the times to a nationalist movement
Citing the change of the date of the Democracy Day festivity from May 29 to June 12, by a President from the North, in commemoration of a political icon from the South.
He said, Nigerians have always risen to the occasion when it signified most. We rose to the occasion when social powers pacified our people and patronize over our coffers.
We rose to the occasion following the despoilments of a civil war to rebuild a united country no matter how amiss.
We rose to the occasion when enduring military totalitarianism pushed us to the edge of extermination and negotiated our way into a republic that provides a platform for us to make a country, we can each be proud of.
And we’ve come this far because of all of us, from the North to the South. Our republic was hard won by Nigerians from the fosses of the six geo- political zones.
Our struggle for a better country has always beende-tribalized. It’s important to note that our commemoration of Democracy Day was lately moved from May 29 to June 12 by a President from the North in honour of a political leader from the South.
Democracy works, all the more so in a miscellaneous union like ours, through accommodations and negotiations carried out in good faith. And each time brings us near to a further perfect union, a more mature republic.
In 2015, this administration came the first administration in the history of our country to take over governance from a sitting chairman in a smooth transition.
In the last couple of weeks, party primaries have been held by political parties big and small and across the country, without violence, rancour or the frequence of bitter court cases as have characterized the process in times once. We’re growing.
