The final preseason game between Rayo Vallecano and Manchester United will take place this Sunday, and Cristiano Ronaldo has confirmed that he will play.
The Portuguese celebrity rushed to Instagram to make the following declaration, which Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has quoted:
The King performs on Sunday. The 37-year-old is yet to play for the Red Devils in preseason action because he missed the team’s tour to Thailand and Australia.
Despite having one more year left on his contract, The Athletic reported in early July that Cristiano Ronaldo wanted to leave Old Trafford since the club didn’t offer Champions League play.
This summer, the captain of Portugal has been connected to a number of elite clubs in Europe.
If he were to continue at the club, there have also been questions regarding his ability to fit into Erik ten Hag’s high-pressing style of play.
Ronaldo returned to the Premier League powerhouses last summer and put up 24 goals in 38 games after joining from Juventus.
However, United’s season was a complete failure as they finished sixth and were eliminated from all of the leagues they were in early.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner allegedly attended this week’s friendly match between Wrexham and a non-league team behind closed doors, according to The Sun, but he did not participate in the game.
Former Scotland defender Alan Hutton stated that some of the senior players may have doubts about bringing back Cristiano Ronaldo to the Manchester United squad after the great forward spoke with Ten Hag earlier this week.
