EPL: Arsenal summer transfer business is still open – Mikel Arteta

As Arsenal gets ready to begin the new season at Crystal Palace on Friday night, Mikel Arteta thinks that the summer transfer market is not closed.

At a cost of more than £100 million, Arsenal has already signed five new players, including Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko.

Prior to the 2022–23 season, Arteta also let go of a number of players, notably goalkeeper Bernd Leno, who this week signed with Fulham.

But Arteta noted that “we are highly active as you can see with incomings and outgoings” prior to Friday’s trip to Selhurst Park.

Everything is still open, a lot has happened over a long period of time, and it’s amazing how much business clubs in the Premier League have done.

This shows how competitive the league is, and this season won’t change that. There will be a need for players to leave, for some to move, and for everything to remain open.

Youri Tielemans, a midfielder for Leicester, has long caught Arsenal’s attention, and a number of other marginal players appear to be on their way out.

Arteta claimed, “It’s always been my team.”

It’s true that we have significantly changed the roster over the previous two windows, especially, and you sense that the players we currently have are more specialized and better suited for the style we play.

Prior to Friday’s opening match versus Palace, a few players will undergo late fitness tests. Takehiro Tomiyasu, Kieran Tierney, Emile Smith Rowe, and newcomer Fabio Vieira have all been dealing with injuries.

Three of the four will train this afternoon, according to Arteta. They will be available for selection and in the squad if everything goes according to plan.

Although Smith Rowe is still deemed unfit, Arteta did not say which of the four would be left out.

Arsenal wants to get off to a better start this year than they did last year, when they dropped their first three games. The loss to Brentford marked the beginning of that awful streak.

This year is different, according to Arteta. Obviously, everything that occurred prior to the game was unusual and bizarre.

We had a different context for our training and pre-season. Prior to that game, Covid acquired Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette from Arsenal.

We are extremely anticipating the new season and will make an effort to get off to the greatest possible start.
