According to reports, Cristiano Ronaldo has informed Manchester United that he has an offer to leave the team this summer.
According to The Sun, the superstar Portuguese player wants to leave Old Trafford and has pleaded with United executives to set a price for him so he can depart by the end of the transfer season.
This is in spite of United not receiving any inquiries about the 37-year-old and a number of Europe’s elite clubs, like Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid, declining to sign him.
After announcing his decision to quit the club earlier this summer, Ronaldo and his agent Jorge Mendes have held confrontational conversations with United’s hierarchy this week.
Mendes allegedly told the team that Ronaldo has a “real offer” and that a transfer amount needs to be specified for his star. The story makes no mention of which team is looking to sign Ronaldo.
This summer, teams like Chelsea and Napoli have been mentioned as potential destinations for Ronaldo in addition to Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid.
On Wednesday, Sportsmail reported that Ronaldo has requested his release from the final year of his £360,000 weekly deal.
United answered that they don’t want to sell him and insisted that their position hasn’t changed or that they haven’t received any inquiries.
The Sun has claimed that due to Ronaldo’s ‘loyalty’ to the team, the Red Devils ‘balked’ at the proposal that they should terminate his contract and allow him to depart on a free.
Ronaldo missed the entirety of United’s preseason vacation to Thailand and Australia, arriving back at Carrington just on Tuesday.
Although he will continue to act professionally, negotiations to persuade Ronaldo to change his mind about wanting to leave have failed.
The 37-year-desire old’s to depart has not changed despite talks, but he will still conduct himself professionally.
On Wednesday, he had medical exams, trained, and then watched his teammates play in a friendly game against Wrexham behind closed doors.
The doubleheader of friendlies this weekend against Atletico Madrid on Saturday in Oslo and Rayo Vallecano on Sunday at Old Trafford was seen to be a little early.
However, it’s thought that Ronaldo would have his eye on the Rayo Vallecano match, which will feature a more backup team.
He was excused from the tour due to family obligations, therefore he has been training hard in the gym.
