According to the Mirror, Arsenal is said to be leading Manchester United in the hunt to sign Real Madrid attacker Marco Asensio.

The Gestifute agency, run by Jorge Mendes, has taken on the services of the Spaniard.

An agency representative is currently waiting to begin negotiations with the Gunners hierarchy about a potential agreement in London.

Asensio, being 18 years old, moved to Real Madrid from Mallorca in 2015. Since his arrival, he has appeared in 236 games for Los Blancos, scoring 49 goals and assisting 24 others.

So far in transfer window, the La Liga team has signed center back Antonio Rudiger and midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni.

Los Bancos, though, has also experienced its fair share of departures. This summer alone, Casemiro, Gareth Bale, Luka Jovic, Marcelo, and Isco have all left the Bernabeu.

While the board continues to support manager Mikel Arteta, Arsenal has had a successful transfer window.

This summer, the Gunners added Marquinhos, Fabio Vieira, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Gabriel Jesus, and Matt Turner.

Several other Premier League teams, including Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United, have shown interest in Asensio.

Gary Lineker, a former player in the Premier League, questioned Real Madrid’s choice to let Martin Odegaard leave on a permanent deal to Arsenal last summer.

The decision made by Los Blancos with Toni Kroos (32) and Luka Modric (36) approaching the conclusion of their respective careers baffled the Englishman.

Lineker said (via Football.London) after the Gunners’ impressive 2-1 comeback victory over Fulham on Saturday (August 27):

Martin Odegaard

The 2022–23 season has gotten off to a fantastic start for Odegaard at the Emirates. For the London-based team in four Premier League games, the 23-year-old midfielder has three goals.
