Following rumors that Ajax turned down a £76 million (€90 million) approach from the Premier League club, Manchester United target Antony has pleaded with the Dutch club to sell him.
The Brazilian international Antony has been continuously linked with a move to Old Trafford since April. Antony was a key player for the new United manager Erik ten Hag during his time in Amsterdam.
Antony appears to have been at the top of Ten Hag’s list for some time now. Ten Hag has not been shy about his desire to strengthen United’s attack.
After United acquired Lisandro Martinez from Ajax, the talks between the two clubs ceased as the Amsterdam club’s negotiation stance appeared to be strengthened by the additional revenue.
However, after United’s defeats in their opening two Premier League games, reports of additional offers have surfaced. On Friday, there was widespread speculation that Ajax turned down a massive £76 million offer for Antony.
The shock of having such a large amount rejected has compelled Antony to express his annoyance in public.
“Since February of this year, my agents came to Amsterdam to advise Ajax of my wish to leave the club and confront a new challenge.
They also informed Ajax that other interested clubs would arrive and that they would undoubtedly bring a nice offer with them,” he said to Fabrizio Romano.
I cut short my vacation in June of this year to personally advise the Ajax management, including the new coach, of my want to depart and ask that they take this possibility into consideration because when I first arrived in Amsterdam, it was a project for two seasons.
“Meetings continued throughout the window months, and I also got a proposal from Ajax to extend our contract. I reiterated what I had previously said: I want to quit the club.
“I reiterated my long-standing desire to leave the club during a meeting with the club today, but this time I had a sizable offer on the table.
Some others had already shown up. With the excuse that they only have five days to find a replacement for me, Ajax has consistently rejected and impeded my exit.
“I’m asking Ajax to sell me for the highest price ever paid for a player in the Eredivisie, not for release from Ajax. Since February, I have insisted on this theme so that the club could rebuild the team in confidence.
“I was really content in Amsterdam, where I won titles with Ajax, made friends, and developed a portion of my career. However, at this point, I want to reaffirm that I am prepared and motivated to pursue my tale and my aspirations.
“People need to pay attention to me and comprehend how my motivation leads to happiness. To keep putting forth my best effort, I require this. My heart will always belong to Ajax.
I believe Ajax supporters can relate to me since a football player’s future is utterly unpredictable and the prospects might be exceptional. My message is one of appreciation for Ajax, the team, and the supporters.
