2023 Presidency: Why We’ll Support’s Peter Obi Over Tinubu – Afenifere



Afenifere, a pan-Yoruba socio-cultural organization, led by Ayo Adebanjo, revealed that the organization supports Peter Obi of the Labour Party to end the current president Muhammadu Buhari administration’s incompetence.

In a tweet on Friday, Mr. Adebanjo stated that the organization rejected the APC’s nominee, a Yoruba man named Bola Tinubu, since the former governor of Lagos State would secure the continuation of the current administration.

Buhari’s incompetence would only continue under Ahmed Tinubu. We support Peter Obi because we are confident in his abilities.

He won’t let Nigerians down, so let’s put our ethnic differences aside and choose the correct leaders, the tweet continues.

The group had previously stated that it was time for the South-east geopolitical region of the nation to take the lead. Mr. Obi is an Igbo and a former governor of Anambra State.

Yes, Peter Obi has our support. Due to Mr. Adebanjo’s recent comments that the South-East should win the presidency on the basis of equity and justice, I am supporting him.

Afenifere and Mr. Tinubu had a lengthy relationship. The former ran for and won the Lagos State governorship in 1999 through the Alliance for Democracy, an Afenifere-affiliated political organization.

Since Mr. Tinubu left the AD, he and Afenifere have remained close. Afenifere supported Goodluck Jonathan in the 2015 election against the APC.

Although several state chapters resisted the support, the choice caused division within the organization. The group’s support for several candidates was split once more in 2019.

Reuben Fasoranti’s faction supported Mr. Atiku of the PDP, while Ayo Fassanmi’s part supported Mr. Buhari of the APC.
