2023: Delegates Raise Alarm Over Plot To Move PDP Primaries Venue To barracks

The delegates for the May 21, 2022 primary choices of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Akwa Ibom State, have raised the alarm over alleged plot by the party to dislocate the setting for the activity from the typical Uyo Township Stadium to Army military quarters Ibagwa in Abak committee area of state.

The delegates described the move as inferior, a trouble to republic as well as a plot by the state government to enfranchise perceived dissentients to their preferred applicant.

Rising from a meeting held at Unique Gardens Ewet Housing Estate, Uyo on Tuesday,Mr. John Etefit,

Ascending from a gathering held at Unique Gardens Ewet Housing Estate, Uyo on Tuesday, Mr. John Etefit one of the party delegates, indicted the state government of being desirous to put its besmeared applicant on the party by forcing members to take the primaries to Ibagwa barracks.

He said, “ After fruitless sweats to get utmost of us to support the aspiration of Pastor Umo Eno, hit a slipup wall, subtle and open pitfalls have been employed which we defied and now the idea of taking the primaries to the barracks produced.

“ We were told by core sympathizers of the government preferred applicant that their final joker is the barracks where only their sympathizers will be allowed access and others supporting other applicants turned back and if they contend on getting in, also dogfaces will be directed to unleash mayhem on them.”

Another statutory delegate, Mr Asuquo Ekanem, from Oruk Anam council area, lamented that republic is completely under trouble in the state professing that “ government is no longer charming or lobbying us to accept their applicant but asking us to stay and see if we will indeed have access to the venue.

We were informed that we will hear our names mentioned but delegation markers will be given to their men on ground and there’s nothing we will do about it.”

Other delegates, who spoke with intelligencers at the end of the meeting, appealed to mortal rights groups, transnational community and other affiliated bodies to turn their searchlight to Akwa Ibom state, “ as the primaries may set the formerly peaceful state on fire and unknown holocaust”.

Another delegate, Aniefiok Ekefre said, “ Any venue outside the Uyo Township Stadium isn’t respectable to us. It must be one man one vote at the primaries, let the popular and respectable applicant crop.

They told us that their preferred applicant is the God’s choice for Akwa Ibom people, why arm- twisting the same people to embrace God’s choice? Akwa Ibom people are now wiser and ready to change the narratives, there will be no third term by surrogate and we aren’t leaving the party for opportunists.”

They further pledged to embark on mass kick and to supplicate the public secretariat of the party should the planned relocation of the guardianship primaries to the barracks considered by the state chapter of the party hold.

Still, the PDP state Hype Secretary, Mr Borono Bassey, when communicated by our pressman, said the matter is still in the realms of enterprise.
