2023: Abaribe Resigns As PDP Senate Minority Leader, Move To APGA; Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, Minority leader of the Senate, has resigned from the Official Peoples Democratic Party PDP Nigeria.
Senator Abribe made his decision known in a letter to the Ward Chairman of the PDP in his ward, Ward 5, Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State.
In the letter dated May 24, 2022, the Senator wrote, This development is consequent upon the opprobrious display of illegality, immunity, and undemocratic decision of the party and after due consultations with my ingredients.
Concerning his coming move, he told Channels Television that he’d be fighting for the Abia South senatorial seat under the All Progressives Grand Alliance( APGA).
In a separate letter, Senator Abaribe notified Senate President Ahmed Lawan of his abdication from the PDP. This also means my abdication as Minority Leader of the Senate, he said.
I wish to thank you and my dear associates in the leadership of the Senate for the warm fellowship we enjoyed while I was Minority Leader.
His abdication is his rearmost move following his bowing out of the Abia State PDP guardianship race which was held on Wednesday.
In a after conveying his decision, the legislator cited the failure to establish a position- playing field for the applicants and the interferences of godfathers.
Consequently, I Senator Enyinnaya Harcourt Abaribe won’t be part of this facade, he said in a statement identified ‘ Notice ofNon-Participation in the Abia PDP Gubernatorial Primaries.
I’m thus not sharing in the exercise, which means that I’ll not be part of the PDP guardianship primary election that holds in Abia State on Wednesday 25th of May, 2022
As doing so would have amounted to an countersign of an illegality that’s formerly being challenged in the courts.
The former deputy governor blamed what he described as a shambolic process in the lead- up to the choices.
