African American couple from Union City, California, Oree and Lena McRae, recently marked their 79th wedding anniversary.
Lena, Oree’s wife, is almost 97 years old, while Oree is almost 100. According to Oree and Lena, their romance began when they first attracted each other’s attention in high school in Arkansas.
Lena is still one of the most beautiful people Oree has ever seen, calling her “one of the best looking on the campus,” he claimed. Lena couldn’t help but be drawn to Oree’s charisma and attractive features.
After a three-year romance, Oree and Lena were married in a justice of the peace-officiated ceremony when they were 20 and 17, respectively.
Since then, Oree, the two have been inseparable for nearly eight decades. “When I first asked her to marry me, that’s the woman I wanted to be with.
And after we got married, we just stayed together. We stuck together all these years,” said Oree
Their journey together took them from Arkansas to Detroit, where Oree worked as a spot welder.
In 1951, they relocated to the Bay Area in San Francisco, where he enjoyed the cool weather.
They lived in the Bayview section of San Francisco for 30 years before relocating to Union City, where they have lived for the past 30 years.
Together they raised six children and today proudly count 25 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren among their extended family.
Their same interests and their faith in Christ, according to the couple, are the reasons for their enduring love.
They expressed their happiness at having such a big, devoted family and their sincere gratitude for their long-term relationship.
